UNCG Biodiversity Collections
This activity will provide a tour of the biodiversity collections in UNCG Biology, which are used extensively in research and instruction in our department. Visitors will see and interact with fossil mammals, archaeological materials, and modern mammal specimens. Three-dimensional printed specimens of rare or delicate materials will also be available for handling and outreach.

Hematian – Bionorganic Chemistry Labratory
Bioinorganic Chemistry is an interdisciplinary field at the interface of inorganic chemistry and biology/biochemistry. This rapidly expanding field probes fascinating questions about the roles of metal ions in life processes. Our research group investigates the chemistry of iron, copper, and manganese through synthetic modeling or directly working with metalloproteins.

Molecular Reaction Dynamics Laboratory
Tours of Dr. Duffy’s physical chemistry research laboratory will be given. His research is in the field of “Molecular Reaction Dynamics” which involves trying to understand the physics underlying chemical reactions. To do this, Dr. Duffy and his students run experiments employing lasers, vacuum chambers, and other custom high-tech equipment.

Natural Product Biosynthesis Lab
We will be giving a tour of our lab where we will talk about our research and the equipment we use and what they tell us.

Natural Products Chemistry/Fungi
We work with fungal microbes and isolate small molecules to find new drugs for cancer, malaria, and bacteria. In our lab we have pure cultures from fungi. We grow fungi so chemists can chemically study them. Fungi are isolated from submerged decayed wood in freshwater habitats and from living plants.
